Story of the Day

Not a great day! We ended up only skiing for about an hour and then gave up. There was a lot of snow overnight. The drive to Vail was was sedate taking full advantage of our four wheel drive. We got a hint of what was to come just walking from the car through a lot of snow.

Walking through the snow at the start of the day.

Snow was falling so quickly that there was nothing like a groomed run. There was about 6" of fresh powder on Bwana.

Columbine was more difficult with more than a foot of powder. Chris and I both found it very difficult. My ribs were really sore; Chris had a very heavy cold and had problems breathing and a sore throat.

Next, we tried the powder in Ouzo Glade into Game Creek Bowl. This had even more powder. I started to get the hang of the conditions, but my ribs still hurt. Chris continued to struggle. We decided to stop for a break.

Lots of fresh powder in Game Creek Bowl

While we warmed up, we decided that we weren't enjoying skiing and decided to stop for the day. We made our way down to the base area and then drove to Winter Park.

The weather was slightly better in Winter Park and we were tempted to ski, but overall decided that lounging around for the rest of the day was a better idea.
